Film Reel

About the Podcast

  • Film as dream, film as music. No art passes our conscience in the way that film does, and goes directly to our feelings, deep down into the dark rooms of our souls.

Join Ed (author of the novella Raggwoodand Tab (co-host of Fangoria‘s The Girls in the Back Row) as they geek out about classic film!

Once a month, we’ll release a super-sized episode covering 2-4 films which share a theme.  The theme can be anything from honoring a specific person (actor, director, composer, etc.) to common subtext.

Because we want to examine a diverse range of films, we do not have a “cut-off year”.  While most of the films will probably will have release dates prior to 1980, we want to have the freedom to occasionally talk about films from the 80s and 90s.

Our main goal is to provide rich, well-researched content.  Releasing once a month allows us to dedicate considerably more time and effort to each episode than a more frequent show would provide.  We watch each movie multiple times (including with commentary), as well as read books and articles about the films and people involved.

Updates and Mailbag – Updates about the show and listener letters (included in episodes when applicable)

Main Movie Discussion – Our main feature!

Recommendations – Recommendations from Ed and Tab about books, movies, albums, television shows, and podcasts (usually in keeping with the theme of the episode).
